Whats-App New TOS Privacy Concern

Whats-App will be requiring everyone to agree to their new Terms of Service which will take effect February 8, 2021, or else you will lose access to Whats-App entirely. The new TOS will allow Whats-App to gather data on you and share that data (including messages) with all of Facebook’s family of products to include Facebook,  Oculus, and Instagram. WhatsApp was marketed as an encrypted messenger app but it is only encrypted between you and the server. The data does not remain encrypted at the server so that Facebook can still access all your messages.

An alternative to WhatsApp would be a zero-knowledge, open-source, end to end encrypted messaging app with all the same features and functionality. Some options include Signal Private Messenger, Wire, or Sudo.
